Make It Happen with HBI
Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of the
National Association of Home Builders, is dedicated to the advancement
and enrichment of education and training programs serving the needs of
the housing industry. For more than 40 years, HBI has trained skilled
workers in residential construction, promoted the industry as a career
and helped the NAHB membership address its need for qualified
employees.

Career Clusters

A Career Cluster is a grouping of occupations and broad industries
based on commonalities. The Architecture & Construction Career
Cluster includes the following industries – architecture and
commercial, industrial and residential construction. Industry career
opportunities are represented by a total of 16 career clusters.
Career Services
Career Services provides resources and strategies for “getting the
word out” about careers in the residential construction industry.
We help students and their influencers access information on the
housing industry’s host of careers attainable through post-secondary
institutions or by joining the workforce directly after graduation.
Craft Skills
Pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship training in residential
construction are offered through HBI’s Craft Skills programs. Craft
programs are public/private partnerships. National, state, and local
agencies conscious of the nation’s shortage of construction craft
workers are faced with the need for long-term career training
solutions and partner with the home building industry through HBI.
Job Corps
Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of the
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), has trained Job Corps
students in the construction trades for careers in the building
industry since 1974. Job
Corps is the nation’s oldest and largest residential, education and
job training program for at-risk youth celebrating its 40th
anniversary.
Student Chapters
The NAHB Student Chapters Program provides students in
building-related fields such as construction management, engineering,
architecture, real estate and the trades an opportunity to learn more
about residential building through membership in the industry’s
largest trade association.
